Festivals in Sheringham

No matter the season, there is always something to do in and around Sheringam. Here are some of the more pupular festivals in the area.

Viking Festival and Parade Sheringham

Vikings once struck terror into the hearts of the inhabitants of our shores, but their return to north Norfolk will be very much welcomed. Plans have been drawn up to stage Sheringham’s Scira Viking Festival – which culminates in the burning of a model long ship. Provisional dates will see this event return in early April 2023.

Thousands of locals and visitors lined the promenade and clifftops to watch, as a flame torch-carrying Viking honour guard hailed the arrival of the wooden boat, which, after being carried across the shingle, was set alight on the sand in a spectacular finale. More than a hundred re-enactors from four Norfolk groups made their way to the seafront.

Holt & Sheringham Norfolk 1940’s Weekend

Held in conjunction with Sheringham 1940s Weekend, the event celebrates the wartime efforts of allied forces and the remarkable resilience shown by those who dealt with the hardships on the home front. Expect the sights, sounds and style of the ’40s in the town of Holt.

On the 16th and 17th September 2023 this part of north Norfolk head back in time with a special music appearance from Britain’s Got Talents D-Day Darlings and David Van Day, along with lots of events ranging from military vehicle parades to pigeon racing.

The weekend celebrates the wartime efforts of allied forces and the resilience shown by people who dealt with the hardships on the home front. The 2019 event was hailed this year’s North Norfolk Railway 1940s weekend the ‘biggest and best yet’, after an estimated 20,000 people turned out to Sheringham and Holt to take part.

Sheringham Street Food Festival

A one-day street food festival will take over Sheringham High Street this spring, promising a feast for the eyes, ears and taste buds. The first ever East Coast Feastival, organised by the Carnival Committee and local traders, will take place on May 1.

Josh Birmingham, who runs Fat Teds streetfood shack, said: "After all the carnival events were cancelled for the last couple of years, we looked at putting something on to bring everybody together, and the best way of doing the event is with food, drink and music."
